This qualification is for people who are responsible for the management of local government meetings to ensure the decisions are made are in compliance with standing orders and legislation. The qualification is designed to increase skills and professionalism in the governance support area. On achieving this qualification people will have a good knowledge of local government processes, meeting procedures and legislation pertaining to meetings, be competent in performing the various interpersonal communications, writing and administration skills required to organise and manage local government meetings and report and an action the decisions made.

Civil Defence Emergency Management
The Local Government ITO Civil Defence Advisory Group, in conjunction with the Ministry of Civil Defence Emergency Management, has developed nationally recognised Civil Defence unit standards and qualifications which are attached to the National Qualifications Framework. These unit standards and qualifications are designed to up-skill and formally recognise the skills of employees and volunteers working in the Civil Defence / Emergency Management area. The Local Government ITO Certificates in Emergency Management are smaller packages of training, approximately four or five unit standards and able to be achieved by volunteers as well as local authority employees. The pathway commences with the RAPID / LGITO Certificates leading into the National Certificates in Civil Defence Response and Civil Defence Management which are nationally recognised qualifications aimed at people employed in the Civil Defence area.
